Victoria Janssen, sometimes known as Elspeth Potter, writes both fiction and nonfiction. Her fiction includes numerous erotic short stories and three erotic novels. Her first novel was the alternate-world fantasy The Duchess, Her Maid, The Groom and Their Lover, published by Harlequin Spice; it’s been translated into French, German, and Russian. Her second novel for Spice, The Moonlight Mistress, features the early days of World War One and werewolves and male-male sex and a woman disguised as a man and a Zouave on a motorbike; it’s been translated into Italian and has an electronic-only sequel available, “Under Her Uniform.” Her third novel for Harlequin Spice, The Duke and the Pirate Queen, is a sort-of sequel to The Duchess, Her Maid, The Groom and Their Lover, focusing on different characters. Having obtained her own e-reader, she’s recently begun making her erotic short stories available electronically.

Her nonfiction mostly appears at the blogs Heroes and Heartbreakers (romance) and The Criminal Element (mystery, suspense, and thrillers). She’s also recently become an anonymous reviewer for Publishers Weekly.

She is a voracious reader, especially of fantasy, mystery, young adult speculative fiction, historical romance, and space opera; however, she has never once defeated the to-be-read pile at the foot of her bed (and her e-reader is not helping). Her major research interest is World War One. You can visit her research collection at LibraryThing.

Frequent themes in her stories include role reversal, creating families, and empowering women, usually through unconventional means. Currently, she is working on a historical fantasy novel set during the early Twentieth Century.

When not writing, Victoria lectures about writing, books, and publishing at literary conferences; researches in libraries and graveyards; and reads. She lives in Philadelphia.

She’s a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and Novelists, Inc..
